Hurlbut-Leak
Jim Leak began this fund made in memory of the late Dr. Hurlbut who established the Muncie Travel Service in 1952. Dr. Hurlbut was also a professor of Geography at Ball State for many years. The scholarship name was later changed to include Jim Leak’s name due to his death in 1992. This award is based on a student's grade point average (GPA) and on service to the department.
Fiddler Award
Given to a student displaying academic excellence in Meteorology and Climatology.
Odom Award
Given to a student displaying diligent service in Meteorology and Climatology. Gamma Theta Upsilon Travel Fund- This is an honors society for geography students. Funds are used to travel to academic conferences so that students may professionally network, attend presentations and workshops, and learn about and engage with emerging research within the discipline. These funds have supported previous trips to national conferences of the American Association of Geographers in Washington D.C. (2010 and 2019), New York City (2012), Tampa (2014), Chicago (2015), and Boston (2017).
