The Department of Political Science is dedicated to advancing the understanding of the political frontier through teaching and research. Our students strive to make better sense of the world and to make a difference in the community by working side-by-side with faculty on important events that are shaping today’s ever-changing political landscape.
Your gift helps fund scholarships that help ease the financial burden of tuition for deserving students. Your donation directly impacts our undergraduate Political Science and Legal Studies majors, as well as our Master of Public Administration students. Your help gives us the opportunity to bring our faculty/student communities together to celebrate special occasions like Election Night and our Senior Reception. Your gift helps our Mock Trial students get hands-on courtroom experience, our Access to Justice Clinic participants assist under-served local residents and allows us to send graduate and undergraduate students to conferences.
Thank you for visiting our OneBallState page, proud home to majors in Political Science and Legal Studies. We are grateful for your support and for your generosity. Check out how we help the students of today become the professionals of tomorrow. And follow along with us throughout the day to keep track of our progress.

Election 2022 Watch Party
The Department teamed with the College Republicans and Democrats and the Student Government Association, to host an Election Night Watch Party. It provided an opportunity for faculty and students to spend time outside of the classroom, cheering (or not) as the results came in while at the same time being able to discuss the wide-ranging implications of the outcome. There was pizza, trivia, balloons, prizes, and, most importantly, fellowship.
BSU Mock Trial Team, Fall Semester 2022
Our Mock Trial Team works diligently throughout the year to prepare for competition. Under the coaching of Professors Ruth Reichard and Johanna Maple, our students inhabit the roles of attorney and witness to hone their courtroom skills while representing the department and the university. Your gift helps them defray the expense of invitational entry fees and individual student expenses, such as lodging and transportation.
The Department recognizes Dr. Gene Frankland's 50 years of service to the University.
Your gift to one or more of our departmental scholarships help to defray the costs of a college education to deserving students. Our newest scholarship is the Gene Frankland Scholarship for International Relations and Comparative Politics, established in honor of our recently-retired most senior faculty member. Other scholarships have been established in honor of or in memory of Roy Gruenewald, Herbert Hamilton, Roger Hollands, Howard Trivers, and Michael Corbett.
