In 2000, Virginia B. Ball-- philanthropist and active supporter of education, the environment, the arts, and the humanities-- founded a unique educational center at Ball State University. Established as an intense experiment in student driven, project based learning, the Virginia Ball Center for Creative Inquiry (VBC) grew over its first twenty years into an international model for academic innovation, planting the seeds for what has become Ball State’s signature brand of high-impact experiences: Immersive Learning.
Today, the Virginia Ball Center is piloting ongoing award-winning community programs—Beneficence Family Scholars, Book Arts Collaborative, the Indelible Podcast, and 2021’s INform Muncie—making significant impacts on Muncie, East Central Indiana, and beyond. We’ve expanded our reach across campus, as VBC Faculty fellows collaborate to teach core curriculum seminars that encourage students to tackle wicked problems and engage with complex questions. VBC alumni can be found working in the arts, in film and television, the non-profit sector, creating leading small businesses and working with industry giants.
