Miss One Ball State Day? You can still make an impact.
Applied Business Studies

The Department of Applied Business Studies, created in Fall 2020, offers an undergraduate program in Fashion Industry Studies, Hospitality Innovation and Leadership, and Property Management. Our programs are student-centered, focusing on skills needed for success in today's industries. Students experience applied, practical, and immersive activities with professionals in the industries and have a high community engagement level.

Your support will allow us to continue providing the labs, studios, equipment, materials, and experiences such as work within the Beeman Historic Costume Collection, Maplewood Mansion Learning Lab, and Allègre restaurant that set our graduates apart.

For example, our hospitality innovation & leadership program students run and manage a fully-equipped restaurant on our campus— Allègre. Your gifts are essential for maintaining state-of-the-art equipment needed for the students to use in the program.

Our fashion industry studies students through their studio and lab space, use industry equipment and materials needed to create original designs, merchandising of fashion, and the study of the numerous components of the industry. In addition, the Beeman Historic Costume Collection, established in the 1930s, houses over 4,500 artifacts, including several important designers. This collection is used to inspire students' original designs and evaluation of fashion trends. Your gifts are essential for maintaining and growing these resources that are important in preparing students for success as they move into the fast-paced fashion industry.

Our property management program provides students with numerous immersive learning experiences, such as our access to the Maplewood Mansion Learning Lab, a historic property in Muncie's Minnetrista district. This facility houses medical students from the Indiana University School of Medicine assigned to clinical rotations at Ball Memorial Hospital and other healthcare facilities in Muncie.  Students assist directly in the management of this facility.

Your support will allow us to continue to provide students with the environment and experiences that set them apart as they become professionals in the industries.

"The best aspect of Ball State is how much hands-on experience you receive. I was in a chef coat cooking in a professional kitchen the first semester of my freshman year."
—Courtney Brown, Hospitality and Food Management Major
