Computer Science

Our newly revised Computer Science curriculum is poised to launch students into their future careers or into graduate school!  Students can select from FIVE CONCENTRATIONS in the following areas:

  • Game Design & Development
    • Gain the full suite of experience needed to design and launch digital games: learn programming in modern game engines, work on multidisciplinary teams, and study fundamentals of game design, 3D animation, and digital sound design.
  • Cybersecurity & Secure Software Design
    • Build the next generation of secure software and systems as you learn to securely design, evaluate, manage, and navigate the current cybersecurity landscape
  • Web & Mobile App Development
    • Design and deploy web and mobile based apps, as you position yourself on the forefront of this in-demand area of the computer science industry as a full-stack developer
  • Data Analytics & Machine Learning
    • Extract meaning from today’s influx of data through the application of computer science techniques and machine learning, across broad domains including enterprise-level data analysis and scientific inquiry
  • General Computer Science
    • Dive deep into the computer science knowledge pool, gaining an in-depth understanding of networks, operating systems, database design, and computer science theory while preparing for graduate school or tackling advanced problems in computer science

One of the 2022 Capstone Team projects -- Song SyncYour generous donation will be used to enhance our students' learning experiences:

  • Student travel to conferences and seminars
  • Participation in hackathons
  • Capstone and special projects supplies
  • Social learning events 
  • New (comfy!) furniture in the updated Student Collaboration spaces

$25,000 Surprise Challenge
$750,000 will unlock $25,000 for Student Emergency Aid, Student Scholarships, Cardinal Kitchen, Cardinal Excellence Fund, and SOAR. Each area will receive $5,000 thanks to an anonymous donor.
Morning Challenge
From 8 - 11 a.m., five donors will be selected at random and $1,000 will be given to the fund their gift went to.
First Student, Employee, Alumni, & Parent Challenge
The first student, employee, parent, and alumni donor will each receive $250 given to the fund their gift went to.
Academic Department Leaderboard
The three academic departments with the most gifts by midnight April 6 receive $5,000, $3,000 and $1,000 in challenge funds.

If the Foundation reaches 100% employee participation, Jean Crosby & Ray Allen will give a total of $1,000.
Enrollment Planning & Management Employee Challenge
If the number of enrollment planning, and management employees who donate is greater than last year, Vice President Paula Luff will donate $2,000 to Student Emergency Aid Fund.
Computer Science Match
Faculty member Vinayak Tanksale will match up to $250 in donations to the Computer Science Fund to enhance student learning experiences.
Dr. Coy Challenge
Department Chair Dr. Coy will donate $250 to Computer Science if alumni and faculty donations reach $1,000.

IT Employee Match
Loren Malm will match gifts made by IT division employees up to $500.
College Leaderboard
The three colleges with the biggest percentage of increased gifts from OBSD 2021 will receive $3,000, $2,000 and $1,000.

The department/unit/team that has the most donors by noon receives $5,000 in challenge funds.

Dean Cutout Selfie Challenge
Provost Susana Rivera-Mills will donate $100 for each dean who takes a selfie with her cut out and/or the cut out of another dean and posts it to social media using #OneBallState on April 5. This total gift of up to $5,000 will benefit the University College.
Last Hour Challenge
Give during the last hour of OBSD and you could be one of three donors chosen to designate an extra $1,000 to the area you gave to.
International Alum Challenge
The first international alum to make a gift on One Ball State Day will get $500 in challenge funds designated to the fund their gift went to.
Computer Science Challenge
15 alumni gifts to the Computer Science Fund unlocks $350 from computer science faculty.

Dean Maureen McCarthy will give $500 to the CSH department with the most unique # of donors.
