Social Justice Research in Higher Education Award
In addition to raising funds for our general departmental foundation fund, we are also fundraising for the Social Justice Research in Higher Education Award, housed within our department. Below is an overview of the Award.
Systemic racism and anti-Blackness are entrenched within U.S. society, of which higher education is a part. On the heels of the COVID-19 pandemic and the murder of George Floyd, the higher education program faculty became even more aware of the need to connect espoused values with action. Therefore, this fund was created as one means to address and redress systemic racism and anti-Blackness through social justice research in higher education.
Our goal is to sustainably provide two awards per year in the amount of $500 to students enrolled in the Ed.D. in Higher Education whose research forefronts social justice imperatives. Criteria for awards are as follows--
- Supported student work must be directly tied to diversity, inclusion, equity, and justice within higher education.
- Preference will be given to students using myriad versions of Black feminism, intersectionality, critical race theory, and/or anti-racism to frame their inquiry/ies.
- Award may cover research-related professional development activities generally, not restricted to conference presentations.
